Graphic Converter Registration: Running from disk image; Bundled version

Graphic Converter Registration: Running from disk image; Bundled version

CNET staff

On Friday, we reported that after launching the new version of Graphic Converter, 4.5, no other copies (registered or not) could be run on the system mounted the drive image. It now appears that versions newer than 4.4 can still work, if the new version (4.5) is run from a disk image instead of from the main volume.

"I downloaded the disk image (.dmg) and ran the application from there instead of copying it to my hard drive. It asked for the registration and I did not have it yet. I hit the trial option and then quit the app. I 'ejected' the image and ran my old 4.4.4 which is registered. No problem."

Apple includes Graphic Converter as part of the software bundle pre-installed on new Macintosh systems. Our in-house Power Macintosh G4/733 includes version 4.2 of Graphic Converter, which will cease to function as a registered application when version 4.5 is installed on the main voume.
