Hurricane Sandy may have washed out Google's planned Android extravaganza, but the weather can't stop the new Google Nexus 7 blowing into UK shops, complete with a new white case, 32GB of memory -- and for the first time, 3G.

A 32GB model of the Nexus 7 has been heavily rumoured in the run-up to Google's launch event. But 3G comes as something of a surprise, as the lack of 3G in the current models helps keep the cost down. So has the extra memory and 3G driven up the price of the new model?

Not at first glance: the 32GB Nexus 7, on sale today, costs just £200, and the 3G model just £240. We'll find out more prices on the 3G model from Three when that network launches the tablet in a matter of weeks.

If the price is as fiercely competitive as the Wi-Fi-packing Nexus 7, then Google's tablet could really take the fight to Apple's new iPad mini, announced last week. The 32GB iPad mini costs £350, £150 more expensive than the 32GB Nexus 7.

Google was expected to announce the new Nexus 7 at a lavish launch in New York today, but was forced to cancel as a vast hurricane looms over the East Coast. The Nexus 7 was to have been joined by a Nexus 10 tablet and LG Nexus 4 phone, so with luck the event will be rescheduled soon. More importantly, we hope that everyone affected by the hurricane comes out in one piece.

The new 32GB Nexus 7 is on sale from 4.30 today at almost any shop you care to name, including gadget shops PC World, Currys, and Comet, as well as supermarkets Tesco, Asda, and Sainsburys. The 3G model will be on Three and Google Play in the middle of November -- we'll keep you posted on deals.
