Apple users can have more peace of mind while traveling thanks to the
new Google Maps app
. The app includes turn-by-turn directions and public transit information. Within a few hours after going live,
Google Maps was the top free app
on the iPhone.
Apple kicked Google's map off iOS 6, but Apple's version has been
plagued with errors
and even caused some people in Australia to be
stranded in the wilderness
. Some iPhone owners have avoided upgrading to iOS 6 to avoid using Apple Maps. Having Google as an option again is changing that attitude.

- Amazon Instant Video launched an
app for iPhone and iPod Touch
. Amazon also
added its Cloud Player
for music on Roku and Samsung Smart TVs.
- The U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement Agency said it was ditching BlackBerry for the iPhone. But Research in Motion is hoping for a second chance, and providing employees with
BlackBerry 10 devices to test
. The next BlackBerry phones are expected to be unveiled on January 30.
- The next version of the Samsung Galaxy Note "phablet" could be
even larger, with a 6.3-inch screen
- A Google project manager said his team has
no plans to build apps
for Windows 8 or Windows Phone.
