PAX Australia 2015 ran from October 30 to November 1 and once again proved that the gaming and geek culture show is an absolute mecca for the best that the independent gaming scene has to offer.

While waiting for your next Mario Party fix, there are great multiplayer games from indie developers that can fill the gap. One of these games is Goat Punks. CNET spoke to Alberto Santiago, the developer behind Goat Punks and Studio Canvas.

Goat Punks is a king-of-the-hill style game for 2 to 4 players, where the first player to get their goat to the top of the map and spend a total of 30 seconds there is the winner. Players race upward and once at the top, a goat can rain bolts of lightning down on other players to prevent them from closing the gap.

Santiago said he was inspired by the increasing popularity of goat videos on the Internet. Goat-based athleticism and hijinks on display in those Youtube videos, along with some of Japan's sillier game shows, formed the core of Goat Punks.

The demo at PAX Australia 2015 showed plenty of polish. Goat Punks' solid gameplay, fun music, and a great art style are impressive work from the solo developer. Santiago aims to release Goat Punks on Steam, PC and Mac in early 2016.
