When debuted the 2021 Yukon and Yukon XL, it showed off a brand-new AT4 variant. Right on the heels of that premiere, we now have the first photos of another new AT4 treatment -- this time on the compact SUV -- straight from its unveiling at a media event in Vail, Colorado on Tuesday.

GMC isn't revealing any official details about the 2021 Terrain AT4 just yet, only saying the SUV "will feature a rugged exterior, confident capability and advanced technology," according to a statement.

From what we can see, the Terrain AT4 will get unique wheels, a black chrome grille and special badges, as well as contrasting cladding around the wheel wells and door sills, giving it a slightly more tough guy look. Inside, we expect to see leather-trimmed seating, aluminum decorative inlays and a host of standard equipment; AT4 models are usually positioned near the top of the trim walk on their respective models.

GMC AT4 lineup

Every GMC truck and SUV now comes in AT4 guise.

With the introduction of the 2021 Terrain, GMC will offer an AT4 version of every vehicle in its lineup. The 2019 Sierra pickup was the first to gain the AT4 package, followed by the Acadia and Sierra HD. The Canyon pickup also debuted its AT4 get-up this week, at the same media event in Colorado.

The premiere of the Terrain AT4 also sees in a facelift for the small SUV, with modestly tweaked grille and headlamp shapes. It's unclear if the Terrain will get any other major changes for the 2021 model year. Currently, the 2020 Terrain is available with a choice of two engines: a 1.5-liter turbo I4 with 170 horsepower, and a larger, 2.0-liter turbo I4 with 252 horsepower. The diesel engine option was discontinued for 2020.

GMC says the 2021 Terrain AT4 will go on sale this fall. We expect to have full pricing information -- as well as further details about the rest of the 2021 Terrain lineup -- closer to that time.
