Global Sports signs Nickelodeon

E-commerce site developer Global Sports has agreed to build and operate a new Web store for cable channel Nickelodeon, the companies said Thursday. This is among the first deals struck by Global-QVC Solutions, a division recently launched by Global Sports to create e-commerce stores for TV shows and stations. Headquartered in King of Prussia, Pa., Global Sports started out building Web sites for traditional sporting goods stores, but last year began offering its services to other kinds of retailers. The company acquired luxury goods store Ashford.com and began powering Kmart's Net operations, BlueLight.com, last year. Developing e-commerce stores for other retailers has become a hot sector this past year, as powerhouse companies such as Amazon.com and USA Networks have marched into the business. The Nickelodeon Shop will launch this Spring at www.nick.com and www.nickjr.com, where customers can purchase a variety of products based on the network's most popular series.
