Getting OS X Server to install on QuickSilver G4 machines: more info

CNET staff
Nigel Ashby suggests these steps to install OS X Server successfully on QuickSilver G4 machines:
  1. Install Mac OS X Server 10.0.3.
  2. Install Mac OS X Server 10.0.4 Update. Note that there may be two 10.0.4 Server Updates available. Make sure you use the July 13th version, as the earlier July 3rd version does not support the QuickSilver hardware.
  3. Install Power Mac G4 Support application, which is supplied with the QuickSilver machine on the OS X 10.0.4 Install CD (as noted in this TIL article, cited here yesterday).

Power Mac G4 Support should update the Ethernet kernel extension (AppleEthernetGMACE) as well as other items - which resolves problems with network performance of OS X Server 10.0.3 running on the QuickSilver hardware. Symptoms typically include an inability to copy files over a network.
