Get Norton 360 6.0 3-user edition for free

That's after a mail-in rebate, of course, but it's still an unbeatable deal on a top-rated security suite. Plus: a totally free PC game.

If you're willing to wait on a rebate, Norton 360 6.0 3-user can be yours for $0.

How's the security on your PC? Is your current software's subscription coming to an end? Are you unhappy with the performance hit it imposes? Do you feel your system is underprotected?

Whatever the case, this might be just the deal you need: Newegg has Norton 360 6.0 3-user edition for $0 shipped. That's after applying coupon code EMCNDHJ227 at checkout and redeeming a $50 mail-in rebate (PDF). (Also, you need to be a Newegg newsletter subscriber.)

True to its name, Norton 360 protects you against just about everything: viruses, spyware, phishing threats, spam, identity theft, and so on. It also includes cloud-backup capabilities to safeguard your data and parental controls to safeguard your kids.

Symantec's security products are still overcoming their reputation for being slow, buggy beasts, but professional and user reviews alike indicate that Norton 360 creates minimal impact on system performance. (Check out CNET's review of Norton 360 5.0, which was already a five-star product.)

Because it includes a three-user license, you can install it on three PCs. However, take note that Norton 360 auto-renews after one year (though you can cancel that option anytime you want), so check back with me in June 2013, and we'll see about finding another freebie.

I know there are plenty of freeware tools that can keep a PC secure, but Norton 360 has the advantage of being an all-in-one solution backed by live-human phone support. (Most of the freebie alternatives offer online support only, if that.) Thus I recommend this for less tech-savvy users and anyone who just wants complete security without a lot of hassle.

Bonus deal: I have incredibly fond memories of the Commandos strategy games, so today's bonus deal is a bonus for me as well: Today only, Green Man Gaming is offering Commandos 3: Destination Berlin (PC) free of charge. You'll also get a code for a 10-percent discount on future purchases. You do need to sign up for and activate an account before you can "buy" the game, and use the Capsule client to download/install it.
