Mashup artists love to make and spread videos based on other people's content. But how many of those artists have explicit permission to use source material from archives like the video libraries of Universal Studios and Warner Brothers Film, and the image and music collections of Getty?
From now until February 29, as part of Getty's Mishmash remix competition, anyone can use those content riches to create a and try to win the contest's $5,000 first prize, as well as get the work in front of a group of influential judges.
"Short story, video art, music video, ad, or mini-documentary--mess with our high res video, stills, and music to create a short video of your own," the contest Web site challenges all comers.
The contest is open to nearly everyone worldwide, and one global winner will take home $5,000. Regional winners will pocket $2,000 each, while five different country winners will get $1,000. There will also be a $1,000 prize for a public vote winner.
"Getting your work out there, seen by thousands of creatives and reviewed by some of the best names in the business is what it's all about," the Web site reads. "Our judges include a top Bollywood executive producer; a founder of a world famous production company; creative directors from leading ad agencies, editors from 'Wired' Magazine and Vimeo.com."
