Get a Logitech Revue with Google TV for $89.99

After plummeting to $99 a couple months ago, Logitech's full-of-potential set-top box is now even less. And an Android Honeycomb update appears to be imminent!

Google TV: doomed product or stealth Apple TV competitor? Maybe a little of both, given the recent price slashing of Logitech's high-profile Revue With Google TV. A couple months back, the $299 Internet-meets-TV appliance dropped to a much more appealing $99.

And now it's even less. Buy.com has the Logitech Revue With Google TV for $89.99 shipped. And it's new, not refurbished.

In case you're not familiar with this set-top box, it goes above and beyond Apple TV- and Roku-style media streaming by offering apps, a Web browser, and a keyboard.

When it first debuted about a year ago, the Revue was dinged for lacking support for major content providers like Hulu, and for its very limited selection of apps. It's still fairly weak on the content front, with Netflix and Pandora the only noteworthy media sources.

However, Google doesn't seem to be giving up on Google TV, as evidenced by a "minor security update" that rolled out last month and "a bigger update" scheduled for the near future. That update is almost certain to be Android Honeycomb, which promises to vastly extend the Revue's capabilities. Indeed, there's been a Honeycomb beta floating around since early August.

So the Revue is for people who like to tinker, who like their set-top boxes hackable and expandable. Plus, it's already a pretty good way to stream Netflix, Pandora, and your own media libraries. I recommend  CNET's (slightly outdated) review  if you want to learn more.

I haven't bitten the bullet myself on a Logitech Revue. If you have, hit the comments and let me know if you think it's a worthwhile buy at $89.99.

Bonus deal: Thanks to the many, many readers who wrote to tell me that Steam is offering Portal 2 (PC/Mac) for $14.99. If you fell in love with the first Portal a few weeks ago  when it was free , this is almost impossible to pass up. However, my birthday's just around the corner, and this was on my wish list, so I'm reluctantly holding off. The 50-percent discount is available until tomorrow, October 6.
