Get a Logitech 2.1 speaker system for $19.99

Perfect for laptops, this compact three-piece system includes a subwoofer for added oomph. Amazingly, it's new, not refurbished.

You know that spiffy new laptop you just bought? I'll bet you a sack of donuts it has weak, tinny, and otherwise atrocious speakers.

That can put a serious damper on your music-listening, movie-watching, and game-playing experiences. That's why I think most laptop users should spring for a set of external speakers. Even cheapies will make a big difference.

Buy.com has the Logitech LS21 Multimedia Speaker System for $19.99 shipped. It's a three-piece system, meaning it comes with two satellite speakers and a subwoofer. (Also: a wired remote.)

These are definitely at the low end of the speaker food chain, but I guarantee they'll sound like a dream compared to your laptop's built-in speakers. The presence of the subwoofer makes all the difference, as satellites alone rarely offer any depth to music and other audio.

I haven't listened to these with my own ears, but a couple dozen Buy.com buyers have--and they collectively rated the LS21 4.4 stars out of 5 on average. Bottom line: this is a dirt-cheap but very worthwhile upgrade for your laptop.
