I should probably start with today's bonus deal, which would have been the main deal except that it's likely to sell out by the time I finish this sentence. Suffice it to say, if you're interested in a $99 (after rebate) Chromebook, feel free to skip to the bottom.

As I've mentioned before, I have a weird fondness for all-in-one PCs. Yeah, they're not usually superpowerful, and repairing one can be a hassle. But for a kitchen or den, it's nice to have a big screen, a full-size keyboard, and other desktop-like amenities.

For a limited time, and while supplies last, Newegg has the Lenovo C355 20-inch all-in-one PC for $349.99, shipped. It lacks a touchscreen but offers just about everything else one might want from such a system.

The 2o-inch screen runs at 1,600x900 (fine for that size) and sports a built-in DVD-RW drive, six USB ports (two of them USB 3.0), a 720p Webcam, and a 1TB hard drive. AMD's lower-end E2-3000 processor powers the system, along with integrated ATI Radeon graphics.

So, no, not a powerhouse, but more than sufficient for everyday kitchen/den activities: email, Web, Facebook, photo management, and so on. Plus, it's a pretty stylish-looking system, in my humble opinion. In an ideal world, it would have a wireless, rather than corded, mouse and keyboard. Alas.

The C355 comes with Windows 8, though the product description specifically mentions 8.1. I doubt that's preloaded, but certainly you can upgrade to it.

Basically, if you're looking for a big-screen desktop without the space-hogging tower, this is definitely worth a look.

Bonus deal: These probably won't last the morning, but here it is anyway: Newegg has the refurbished Acer C710-2856 11.6-inch Chromebook for $99.99, shipped. That's after redeeming a $20 mail-in rebate (PDF). It has just 16GB of (expandable) storage and a 90-day warranty -- but it's still a laptop for under $100! Wowza. (Apologies if it's sold out by the time you get there. Still in stock as of 8:15 a.m. ET.)
