Get a $70 Walmart gift card when you buy a Nook HD+

Assuming you do a lot of shopping at Walmart anyway, it's like getting a 9-inch tablet for $199.

The Nook HD+ can be yours for as little as $199 (once you factor in a $70 gift card). Walmart

I realize it's not Tuesday, but this tablet deal won't wait.

For a limited time, and while supplies last, Walmart is offering a $70 e-gift card when you buy a Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ tablet. The 16GB and 32GB models sell for $269 and $299, respectively.

If you frequently shop at Walmart for things like groceries (meaning you'd spend $70 there anyway), then this effectively works out to $199 or $229.

Contrast that with an earlier Nook HD+ deal, which awarded you a free Nook Simple Touch. That one came from B&N proper, and obviously didn't put any cash (well, "cash") back in your pocket.

The Nook HD+, of course, is Barnes & Noble's impressive 8.9-inch slate. CNET called it "a fantastic tablet value" and commended its "sharp screen, good performance, and microSD slot."

I'll go a step further and say it's the best deal going on a tablet of this size, especially when you consider that Apple's 8-inch, lower-resolution iPad Mini still starts at $329. I find the Nook HD+ especially appealing once rooted to run Android proper, which you can do yourself or via various upgrade services.

To get the deal, hit the Walmart product page, then scroll down a bit and choose which model you want. Then click Personalize & Add to Cart. You'll need to provide some details about the gift-card recipient, even if it's you. Eventually you'll make your way through to the checkout page. The e-gift will be delivered via e-mail, natch, but you can redeem it either online or in-store.

One might speculate that this and other recent Nook-related deals point to an imminent change in Barnes & Noble's tablet lineup. That's a possibility, though keep in mind the HD+ made its debut barely six months ago.

Whatever the case, this is a smokin'-good deal on a smokin'-good tablet.

Bonus deal: Here's one more Tax Day freebie to add to the list I shared last week: Today only, LivingSocial will take 15 percent off any purchase under $100 when you use coupon code TAXDAY at checkout.

Bonus deal No. 2: Calling all parents of toddler-size dependents: For a limited time, Amazon has Just 4 Kids: Greatest Hits, a 12-song MP3 collection of classic children's tunes, for free. You'll need an Amazon account, natch, and the Amazon MP3 Downloader if you want to download the songs (as opposed to streaming them from Amazon Cloud Player, which you can also do).
