OK, you're on the hook for sales tax, too, but that's still a sweet deal on a big, football-game-friendly TV.
You've got the beers, the wings, the dip, and the chips. Are you really planning to watch the big game on your beat-up old 37-inch TV? Time to man up! (Which, in my world, means buying fancy electronics.)
Today only, and while supplies last, Best Buy has the Insignia NS-55E480A13A 55-inch LED HDTV for $679.99 shipped (plus sales tax). Update: Weirdness at Best Buy today. The TV was $599.99 when I first started writing the post, then it jumped to $679.99 literally moments before I was set to publish. But you can now find it for $599.99 -- at least for the moment.
That's a pretty sweet price on a TV of this size, especially considering that it's new, not refurbished, and features LED (rather than LCD fluorescent) backlighting and a 120Hz refresh rate -- the latter arguably much better for fast-action games of sport.
The NS-55E480A13A is one of those superslim TVs you hear about, measuring all of 1.5 inches thick. It promises a 178-degree viewing angle and comes with four HDMI inputs -- the better to make up for its lack of apps. (A $50 Roku box solves that problem. Speaking of which, the TV also has one of those newfangled MHL inputs, so you could opt for the Roku Streaming Stick instead.)
I think user reviews are essential when picking out a TV, and this model scored very highly with 125 Best Buy customers. Average rating: 4.3 stars out of 5. One common complaint: poor sound quality. (Got you covered: see the bonus deal below.) Of course, lots of HDTVs suffer from poor sound quality.
I'd say that if you can get out the door with this baby for 700 bucks and change, you've scored yourself a damn fine TV -- one you can be proud to show off on Sunday. And Thanks-For-Leaving-Me-With-This-Giant-Mess Monday.
Bonus deal: Looking for a dirt-cheap sound bar -- you know, maybe to go with a new TV? For a limited time, Best Buy has the LG NB2020A two-channel sound bar for $39.99 shipped (plus sales tax where applicable). The reviews on this model are all over the place: some love it, some hate it. If you end up in the latter camp, you can always return it to your local store -- a nice alternative to having to pay return shipping.
