Get a $5 Amazon Instant Video credit

All you need is a TV or Blu-ray player or streaming-video box you can link to Amazon's service. Presto: five bucks to blow on movies or TV!

Do you own a Roku box? How about a Web-connected HDTV or Blu-ray player? Or any other device that's compatible with Amazon Instant Video? If so, today is your lucky day.

You can get a $5 Amazon Instant Video credit when you link that player, TV, or box to the service. The entire process takes all of 2 minutes, and the credit is good for anything in the Amazon Instant Video store: movies and TV shows, and both rentals and purchases.

Here are the deets from Amazon:

1. Register an eligible Amazon Instant Video-compatible device with Amazon Instant Video for the first time by March 31, 2012. Eligible devices for this promotion include Amazon Instant Video-compatible Vizio HDTVs and Blu-ray players, Samsung HDTVs, Panasonic HDTVs and Blu-ray players, and Roku streaming players.

2. Your credit in the amount of $5 will be automatically applied to your account after successful registration and will be applied to your purchase or rental of eligible movies or TV shows. This credit will expire on April 30, 2012.

I linked up my shiny new Roku LT; now I'm just deciding how to blow my five freebie dollars. Thinking I might rent "30 Minutes or Less," as I'm a fan of both Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari.

That's $3.99, which will leave me a buck I can put toward a $1.99 episode of, say, "The Walking Dead." (I've heard good things.)

How will you use your credit? Let's hear some $5 recommendations in the comments!
