The AOC e2251Swdn 22-inch LED-backlit monitor is a steal at $99.99 shipped. TigerDirect

Yesterday my brother-in-law Bill was balking at the idea of using a laptop as his primary PC. A longtime desktop user, he likes having his monitor up at eye level.

Fair enough, I said, but didn't he know he could connect an external monitor to his laptop? Like this one: For a limited time, TigerDirect has the AOC e2251Swdn 22-inch LCD monitor for $99.99 shipped.

That's $50 off the regular price and a good $30 less than most bargain-priced 22-inch displays I see. And it's proof positive that you don't need a Black Friday or Cyber Monday to score a killer deal.

The AOC is your basic LED-backlit monitor with DVI and VGA inputs, a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, a 5ms response time, and an ultra-thin design.

The user reviews on this model are mostly positive, though there's a bit of griping about the lack of an HDMI port (which appears in one of the product photos but not the product description). Needless to say, if you need a monitor with HDMI, look elsewhere.

On the other hand, if you want a screen with a three-year warranty for under $100, look no further. The AOC would make a great second monitor or a fine addition to a laptop that's pulling desk duty.

Bonus deal: Is there a Staples store near you? Swing on by and you might be able to score a Google Nexus 7 (16GB) tablet for $199 plus tax. That's $30 less than yesterday's deal on the same tablet, proving once again my favorite axiom: cheap things come to those who wait. Update: Whoops! As several commenters rightly pointed out, this is the regular price for the 16GB Nexus 7. I was confusing it with other 16GB tablets normally priced at $249. Let's try this instead: Today only, Daily Steals has the refurbished iPad 2 (16GB) Wi-Fi+3G for $299 shipped -- one of the better deals I've seen on a 3G-equipped iPad.
