Get a 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive for $14.29

I cannot tell a lie: there's a rebate involved. But it's worth a bit of paperwork to get a high-capacity, high-speed drive for such a low price.

Put 16GB of USB 3.0 storage in your pocket for less than $15 (after rebate).
Put 16GB of USB 3.0 storage in your pocket for less than $15 (after rebate). Newegg

Regular Cheapskate readers know that I'm a sucker for three things: Wi-Fi printers, big monitors, and flash drives. I can't explain why; it's all part of the giant enigma that is Rick Broida.

If you share my bizarre love for flash drives (or, more likely, you just need extra mobile storage), here's one mighty fine deal: Newegg has the Corsair CMFVY3 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive for $14.29 shipped. That's after applying coupon code EMCKCHH22 at checkout and redeeming a $10 mail-in rebate (which comes in the form of a prepaid VISA card).

I'm sure some of you will object to the rebate, but even at $24.29, this is a pretty solid deal. Indeed, Newegg sells the USB 2.0 version of this drive for $24.99. So here's your chance to score some USB 3.0 storage for considerably less.

If you have a fairly new laptop or desktop with a USB 3.0 port, you're in for some blazingly fast file transfers. If not, no worries: the drive works fine with 2.0 ports.

This is a ruggedized drive, with a rubber housing that's water-resistant and pretty much drop-proof. I won't say it's run-over-with-your-car-proof, but it can probably take a decent beating. Corsair backs it with a five-year warranty.

What's so great about flash drives? They can rescue a virus-infected PC, securely store your passwordsrun Linux, install Windows, and so much more. Guess that explains my fondness for them!

The rebate offer (PDF) expires July 31, but there's a very good chance the drive will sell out before then. Heck, it might sell out before this deal reaches your inbox, in which case I apologize. As always, the early visitor to the Cheapskate site gets the deal worm. (In other words, don't wait on the e-mail.)

Bonus deal: I'm a sucker for TV deals, too, like this one: today only, Woot has a refurbished Philips 32PFL3505D 32-inch LCD HDTV for $239.99, plus a more-than-reasonable $5 for shipping. That's a ridiculously good deal, as long as you can live with the 90-day warranty.
