George R.R. Martin publishes new chapter of his next 'Game of Thrones' book

George R.R. Martin has published a new sample chapter of his long-awaited new novel, "The Winds of Winter", the next in the Song of Ice and Fire series that has been adapted for TV as "Game of Thrones".
The chapter is told from the point of view of a character not yet shown in the HBO show: Arianne, daughter and heir of Doran Martell, the cautious, sickly Dornish king. Since "Game of Thrones" has diverged significantly from its source material, Arianne may never appear on screen.
"You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in 'Winds of Winter'? Quite a lot, actually," Martin wrote in a blog post on Tuesday announcing the new sample. "The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait."
Martin said in January that he was still "months away" from delivering a manuscript, which his editors said would take months more to turn into a published book. Previous sample chapters had featured the Stark daughters, Arya and Sansa. (Here's how to read all of the "Winds of Winter" chapters.)
"And no, just to spike any bullshit rumors," Martin said, "changing the sample chapter does NOT mean I am done...Monkey is still on my back...but he's growing, he is, and one day..."
