GarageBand 3.0 (#4): Snap to Grid suddenly fails, solution

We've received word from a handful of users indicating a flaw in GarageBand 3.0 where the "snap to grid" functionality suddenly fails. Disabling and re-enabling Snap To Grid in the Control menu, quitting and reopening GarageBand, and trashing the program's cache file have no effect.

In most cases, the is restricted to certain projects -- others do not exhibit the problem.

One MacFixIt reader has discovered a potential workaround to this issue, as follows:

"I opened the affected project's bundle in the Finder and had a look at the enclosed projectData file using the Property List Editor included with the developer tools (Apple's Developer Tools -- included with Mac OS X 10.4.x). There was nothing blatantly wrong to the untrained eye, so I compared it to another projectData file from a good, working project.

"While most of the important fields were identical between the two, one field -- /$objects[5]/DfTransportViewClockMode -- was set to YES in the good project but NO in the bad one. So, changing the latter to YES, I saved the file and tried to open it in GarageBand. It crashed, so, using a backup copy of the project which I made prior to making this change, I opened the projectData file in BBEdit, searched for DfTransportViewClockMode, changed the line below it from 'false' to 'true', saved, and tried GarageBand again. This time the file opened without crashing GB, and, lo and behold, Snap To Grid magically worked again! So that's an interim fix until Apple gets around to squashing this bug."
