Here be dragons. The first trailer for season 4 of Game of Thrones has appeared on YouTube, giving our first glimpse of the bloodsoaked misery to come. Hooray!

Such is the anticipation surrounding the series, the video has been watched more than 2 million times since it went live last night.

Watch all 103 seconds here:

My main impression is of the changing fortunes of the series' keystone characters -- wily Tyrion imprisoned and in despair; his brother Jaime as glamorous as ever with his new gold hand; poor Jon Snow fighting in the dark; Daenerys as a no-nonsense dictator.

New characters are few and far between, with Prince Oberyn the Red Viper the only one with any significant screen time -- his Spanish accent fits the Martell's sun-baked homeland. Those who've read the books may be surprised to see one or two faces, but it's clear the TV series is going its own way, if only by presenting every character's story at the same time.

The new series airs at 9pm on Monday nights on Sky Atlantic, starting 7 April.

For the first time, you won't need a full Sky subscription to watch it (legally) on the day -- any device that can access Now TV can get a £5 per month Entertainment subscription and watch Sky Atlantic streamed live and on-demand.

Android and iOS apps mean you can watch on your phone or tablet, and the Now TV Box (and similar Roku boxes) can plug into your TV without a satellite dish.
