Galaxy S5 on Three to start at £38 per month
Samsung's new flagship is shaping up to be pretty pricey, as Three also sticks a cap on its data tethering plans.
Three has revealed what it'll be charging for the Galaxy S5, and -- as expected -- Samsung's new toy is shaping up to be rather pricey.
The numerical network says the S5 will be available with an upfront cost of £69 when it goes on sale on 11 April, with a choice of four different 24-month price plans.
The cheapest of these costs £38, a deal that nabs you 600 minutes of data and 2GB of data. The priciest costs £44, for which you get unlimited minutes and all-you-can-eat data.
If our calculations are correct, that means if you go for one of Three's contracts, you'll be paying at least £981 over a period of two years.
That's a bit more expensive than Three's cheapest iPhone 5S contract, which costs 35 per month and £29 up front, for 1GB of data and 600 minutes. To get the iPhone 5S with the same 2GB of data you get with the cheapest S5 plan, you'll be splashing out £38 per month and £29 up front (or £941 over the two-year stretch).
Meanwhile, Vodafone will be the only operator to offer the gold version of the Galaxy S5 at launch. That period of exclusivity only lasts a month though, so if you're desperate for the bullion-hued edition, you'll only need to hold out a few extra weeks.
No more unlimited tethering
Meanwhile, Three has tweaked its range of tariffs, getting rid of unlimited tethering. On its site, Three says that if you sign up to a 500MB, 1GB or 2GB plan, all of that data will be available for tethering.
If you sign up to an all-you-can-eat data plan, tethering is now capped at 2GB. It doesn't look like these changes will affect existing customers.
