MetroPCS subscribers have a reason to cheer today. The carrier just announced that it now offers the Samsung Galaxy S4 contract-free for $549 up front.

With its robust 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, a massive 5-inch HD AMOLED screen (1,920x1,080 pixels), and a boatload of software features, no doubt many MetroPCS customers have been craving the hot little handset. Indeed the gadget has already landed on all four of the major U.S. cellular carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon) as well as regional providers such as U.S. Cellular.

Be advised, though: MetroPCS will offer the Galaxy S4 in only a few "select" markets, eight in total, at least for the time being. These metro regions are: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas-Ft.Worth, Hartford, Conn., Las Vegas, New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Still, that's a lot of potential S4 buyers; people who splurge on the phone will also enjoy 4G LTE data access in these areas.
