Galaxy S4 due for KitKat in January, S3 in April says leak
The S4 and Note 3 will get KitKat in January, according to a leaked Samsung schedule, while S3 and Note 2 owners could be waiting until April.
Samsung will update its flagship 2013 phones, the Galaxy S4 and Note 3, to the tastiest new Android 4.4 KitKat software in January, according to a leaked Samsung R&D document obtained by Indian site iTechAddict.
The schedule claims last year's top-notch mobiles, the S3 and Note 2, will have to wait until March or April for the bump to KitKat.
Bear in mind that's when Samsung may make the update available to networks and push it out to unlocked phones. If you bought your blower from a network, it'll take much longer to get KitKat, because they have to customise it with their own tweaks and apps.
"Samsung UK will announce rollout plans for Android 4.4 in due course," a company spokesperson told me.
HTC has promised its gorgeous sliver of metal, the One, will be smothered in KitKat by the end of January next year, but again local networks will take longer to push it out.
Samsung halted the rollout of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update earlier this week after a deluge of complaints from irate users. The faulty upgrade reportedly drained batteries, froze phones, st-st-stuttered music and wobbled Wi-Fi connections.
Last year's best value Android phone, the Google Nexus 4, saw early reports of Android 4.4 this week, with the update set to roll out fairly slowly to all users over the next month. The Nexus line of tablets and mobiles sees new Android quicker than any other, because it doesn't have any manufacturer customisation.
