G3/BW loose bracket affects use of Programmer's button?

Regarding problems getting the Programmer's button to work when trying to apply the G3 Firmware Update (see MacFixIt Extra), reader Alan writes: "I discovered that the bracket assembly that holds the Power and Programmer's buttons to the inside front panel was loose inside the case of my Mac, and thus neither button would work when pressed. I slid the bracket feet back into their slots, went through the updating process again, and this time everything worked as expected. So if the large power button doesn't work either, that's a sign that the bracket might be loose."
