G3 Macs and ClearPhone minor glitch with sound setting

CNET staff
Robert Blumenkranz describes a problem with ClearPhone and the new G3 Macs that some users will experience. The source of the problem is that the G3 Macs default the Sound Input to "None" (a new option in the Monitors and Sound control panel, not found on previous models) rather than "Microphone."

Robert writes: "When running ClearPhone for the first time as a demo, you will see a window startup selection with two audio setup buttons, used to select the microphone sound levels: 'Manual' and 'Automatic.' When using a G3 the Automatic selection will fail, causing ClearPhone to quit. A work-around, for ClearPhone version 4.0.4 and earlier, is to use the Manual selection and then choose Microphone from the M&S control panel. Then you can select the Automatic audio setup. We will be putting out a permanent fix for this problem in ClearPhone version 4.0.5."
