Fujifilm FinePix XP30 with GPS slaps your snaps on a map
No matter where you're planning this year's holiday, the Fujifilm FinePix XP30 snaps at sea and on sand -- and even tells everyone where you are.
Judging by all the travel adverts on telly at the moment, January is the time thoughts turn to this year's holiday. That, and online dating, and watching fitness DVDs, apparently. No matter where you're considering spending your week off, the Fujifilm FinePix XP30 should be rugged enough to take care of you. And afterwards, it bring a new dimension to your holiday snappage with built-in GPS.
The 14.2-megapixel toughened point-and-shoot is encased in a unibody metal chassis with a manly riveted front panel and hardened glass lens cover. The sturdy frame is dust and sandproof, waterproof to 5 metres, shockproof for drops of up to 1.5 metres, and freezeproof to –10C. The 2.7-inch anti-reflective screen is also reinforced.
Whether snorkelling, snowboarding, or just prone to dropping things after a few too many frozen margaritas, you can immortalise your 'oliday exploits in glorious 720p high-definition videos.
Tough cameras are ten a penny these days, with the likes of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT10 and Canon PowerShot D10 taking on the market-leading Olympus mju Tough range. But they don't have GPS, allowing you to capture where you are and tag it to the picture so you can display your snaps on a map when you get home.
Given that GPS doesn't work well, if at all, indoors, we wonder how it'll do when underwater. Imagine placing your snorkelling snaps on a map to show just how far out you swam. Or where the pool was in the hotel, depending how adventurous a holidaymaker you are.
The XP30 goes on sale here at the end of January, for £200. It's available in black, silver, orange, blue and green. A GPS-less version, the XP20, will be available in the US, but a UK release has yet to be confirmed. Excuse us, we're off to book a week in Bognor.
