Fujifilm FinePix F60fd: 0-60 in 12 megapixels
The Fujifilm FinePix F60fd may not be too exciting at first glance, but it does boast a ginormous screen and introduces us to face detection 3.0
Fujifilm has followed the popular F50fd with the new FinePix F60fd. It's an incremental upgrade to the popular F50fd, slotting into the range below the disappointing F100fd. While the quality of past cameras in the F range have guaranteed Fujifilm a large amount of goodwill, we have to admit there's little to inspire us about the F60's specs. When it hits shelves, will it be gone in 60 seconds?
The headline figure for most consumers is the 12-megapixel resolution. Whether that's a good or a bad thing remains to be seen, depending on the quality of the 1/1.6-inch Super CCD VII HR sensor. Fuji has a good track record in that regard, so we're looking forward to getting the F60fd in for a full review.
The usual Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens has a focal length of 8.0-24.0mm, equivalent to 35-105 mm on a 35mm camera. Not very exciting, as other manufacturers are widening lenses all over the shop. Video is limited to monaural 640x480-pixel VGA size.
There's also a plethora of burst modes, with Fuji claiming a maximum of 5 frames per second at reduced resolution. But the F60's trump card will probably be the debut of face detection 3.0. Quite what that means will be revealed closer to launch, along with pricing details.
The F60fd takes xD memory card up to 2GB, and SD and SDHC cards. It drops in September, and will be available in silver or black. Click next for more. -Rich Trenholm
