Front Row 1.2.2 (#4): Fix for problem playing shared audio/video

CNET staff

We continue to report on an issue where Front Row 1.2.2 is unable to playback shared video and audio, where Front Row 1.2.1 was able to playback these files. For most users, playback for these files still works normally within iTunes.

As one reader writes:

"I used to be able to share any video I had loaded into iTunes between multiple computers via iTunes or Front Row on the client. That suddenly stopped working in the past week or two, and the only videos I could share successfully were video podcasts or trailers downloaded from apple.com."

It now appears that this issue can be solved in some cases by re-encoding the problematic audio/video with QuickTime Pro.

This can be accomplished by opening the desired video in QuickTime Pro, then choosing the "Export" option from the File menu. Save the file in MPEG-4, and in the "Video" tab and make sure that the "Pass through" options are on for both video and audio. Also, under the "Streaming" tab, select "Enable Streaming."

You can now re-attempt playing the video/audio as shared media in Front Row.
