Four Companies to Debut $500 PC

IBM, Sun, and Oracle, are in talks with Olivetti SpA to unveil a $500 PC they will design exclusively for access to the Net.

IBM, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle are in discussion with Olivetti to provide a $500 PC with access to the Internet, according to Olivetti officials.

Dubbed Netsurfer, the new computer will be produced by Acorn, and is set to debut by late next year. The base of the computer will resemble set-top boxes used by pay-TV providers.

Netsurfer will be designed exclusively for access to the Net and will have no storage or memory capacity, according to company officials.
