Communicator Profile Manager deletes needed files?Several users report a potentially serious problem with Netscape Communicator 4.6.x: if you use the Profile Manager to delete a Profile, you may wind up deleting a lot more. One poster wrote: "A quick check revealed that everything was deleted from the Netscape Communicator Folder except the enclosed "Plug-ins" folder." Another poster lost even more.

Multiple users and Netscape A user reports being unable to access more than one user profile when launching Netscape browser 4.6.x, even though multiple users are listed. Another posting provides a likely solution.

Alsoft's Corrupt FOND Fixer and generic icons A poster writes that, after installing Alsoft's Corrupt FOND Fixer, many of his Preferences documents became Corrupt FOND Fixer documents. A reply from Alsoft posted to the thread explains that this is due to a Mac OS glitch that can happen with files that have a generic [????] Creator code.

Meanwhile, the Read Me file for Corrupt FOND Fixer has been updated to include information on the two troubleshooting issues we reported here last time.

Sherlock and Surf Express Readers have reported problems running Sherlock with Surf Express enabled. We have previously reported on this matter, including a reply from Connectix: "Zap the PRAM and rebuild the Desktop. Also purge the Surf Express cache. If that doesn't solve the problem, you can do a Finder find for SE.database. When it finds it, trash it. Remember to also empty your trash."

Using the Forums: No duplicates please A request: Please do not post the same message in more than one Forum. It is unlikely to get you any better results and only serves to annoy other readers who do not wish to see the same posting repeated. On a related matter, remember that, after posting a reply, your message may not appear on your screen until after you refresh the page (if you use Explorer over a proxy server, you may need to use the ? technique, mentioned last time, to see your new posting). Don't let this fool you into posting the same message twice, under the mistaken belief that the first message never got posted.
