A new "Cross-platform: Macs & Windows" Special Topics Forum has arrived at the MacFixIt Forums. John Rizzo is the "guest host."

Recent postings of note:

666 virus from Apple? A posting makes a reasonable case that some Macs sent to Apple for repair may return with a SevenDust/666 virus infection. Apple officially denies this, although a Apple tech (mentioned on the Forums) suggested it might be so.

Update: Douglas Romero describes a similar experience with his PowerBook sent in for repair to Apple. A 666 file was found on the drive shortly after its return.

Menuette 3.0 conflict? A posting reports that, after installing Menuette 3.0, Finder quits began to occur. A reply posting suggests a possible more general conflict with font utilities, and that Tiger Technologies is "aware of the problem."

Word 98 hangs A posting states that "When typing in Word 98 on two identical PowerBooks running OS 8.5.1, the computer will lock up if you suddenly click on a drop down menu (especially the Apple menu). The mouse will still move, but the computer is frozen. A reply suggests that moving up to Mac OS 8.6 may be the solution.
