Formac firmware update fixes problems with Retrospect

CNET staff
Dantz has sent us a follow-up to their prior report on problems with Formac SCSI cards and Retrospect:
To quickly summarize the earlier report: the cards were not properly passing on information from the tape drive to the Mac OS SCSI Manager system software and consequently to the Retrospect application. The errors reported were Error 102 (trouble communicating) and Resynchronizing (slow).

All of the previously reported issues with this card have been corrected with a new firmware update, SA1-ROM 1.5.6, available from the Formac web site (with a listed release date of August 6, 1999).

Dantz's test lab retested Formac's ProRaid UltraWide SCSI-3 single channel SCSI Card and Formac's ProRaid UltraWide SCSI-3 dual channel SCSI card with firmware version 1.5.6.

Note: Peter Merison had a similar problem with Retrospect, using a Sony AIT SDX-S300C with an ATTO Express PCI Pro LVD UL2S card. He switched to the SCSI card from one of our blue and white G3s (Adaptec 2940U2B) and the problem went away.
