Floor stand for Xserve; FireCable; Apple's Q1 results; Microsoft's Java deadline
FireCable offers external power CompuCable has debuted the FireCable, a universal power adapter for any bus-powered FireWire device. It works by 'injecting' DC current into the power pins of a standard 6-pin FireWire connector, without having to use any vendor specific DC connectors. The cord is useful in situations when bus power is not supplied, as with some CardBus/PCMCIA controllers or an i.LINK port. The device is priced at US $ 24.95. More.
Apple releases Q1 results Apple last night announced financial results for its fiscal 2003 first quarter ended December 28, 2002. For the quarter, the Company posted a net loss of $8 million, or $.02 per share. These results compare to a net profit of $38 million, or $.11 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Revenues for the quarter were $1.47 billion, up 7 percent from the year-ago quarter, and gross margins were 27.6 percent, down from 30.7 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 43 percent of the quarter?s revenues. More.
Microsoft given Java deadline A federal judge has ordered Microsoft to begin shipping Sun Microsystems' Java with the Windows operating system within 120 days, after the companies fought over implementing a ruling he made last month. ZDNN reports "Sun had complained in a court filing that Microsoft wanted to take up to a year before including the Java program in copies of Windows it sells." More.
