Publishing errors and iWeb go hand in hand. The frustrating messages:

  • An error occurred while publishing file '/Web/Sites/Sites.rss'. Try publishing again later."
  • "Publish Error. Can't create the file "nameoffile.png." The disk may be damaged  or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."

and others have plagued all versions of the software, including the recently released 2.0.3.

Now MacFixIt reader Ross Meridith may have found a solution -- turning off "Allow Comments." He writes:

"If you select "Allow comments" either in RSS for Blog or Photos while you have a Personal Domain configured for your .Mac account it will give you a "Publishing Error".  The details of that error will be something like this: An error occurred while publishing file ?/Web/Sites/Personal/Blog/Entries?. Try publishing again later.

"It obviously has a problem (in the case of this Blog's "Allow comments" being activeated.) creating/modifing the "Entries" folders contents.  It's definitely a Personal Domain configuration problem because I have tried it with a .Mac account that did not have Personal Domain configures and the "Allow comments" feature published correctly.

"First get a domain that you can CNAME to web.mac.com via your .Mac account and give 24 hours to let it configure. Then create a new site and add a blog and publish and publish will work.  Then select "Allow comments" in the Inspector->RSS->Blog->Comments.  Now publish and see if it gives you the same error as I get. [...] So, Personal Domain does not support "Allow comments". Not yet anyways."
