Fix for ATI X800XT startup issues on the way

CNET staff

Over the past few days we've been covering an issue with a just-released ROM update for the newly shipping, high-end ATI Radeon X800XT. Specifically, the new ROM update can cause a problem that disallows some Macs from starting up properly. This issue affects both Mac OS X 10.3.x and Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) systems.

MacFixIt reader Fernando Cruz now reports that ATI is working on a fix.

Fernando writes:

"I spoke yesterday with an tech support agent at ATI and they reassure me that a downgrade of the ROM was in the works, hopefully in the next couple of days. I also experience the issue under 10.3.9. In other words I can't use my G5."

Indeed, ATI has pulled the April 2005 ROM Updater from its support site.
