Five stylish cars for the everyday driver

There are many beautiful exotic cars, but here are five with good design that will turn heads on the daily commute.

Cars such as Ferraris and Maseratis look beautiful, but unless you live in Monaco you rarely see them on the road. However, there are everyday cars, much more affordable than the exotics, that still offer striking design. These are the cars you are more likely to see -- and notice -- in your local grocery market parking lot. They also illustrate the fact that nice design does not have to be expensive.

2013 Audi A5/S5
In the style department, coupes already have an edge over other cars. So many of the world's best-looking cars have fit that grand tourer mold. Audi's A5/S5 shows a different take on two-door styling, taking advantage of its lack of rear doors to implement one of the best rooflines going today in a production car.

2013 Ford Fusion
Decades of midsize sedans have been designed for lowest common denominator, broad appeal, but Ford breaks through that theme with the elegantly styled Fusion. The body includes contours that set it apart from the boring masses, yet it does not go as swoopy as the Hyundai Sonata. The Fusion's design has been compared to Aston Martin, which is very good company to keep.

2013 Scion FR-S
Scion's new sports car, a joint effort between Toyota and Subaru, incorporates classic Grand Tourer design in a very small package. Seeing one on the road, you are bound to turn your head. The subtlety of the fender curves and roofline embody a design so eternal, it seems like the car has always been with us. And it doesn't hurt that the car, whether as the Scion FR-S or the Subaru BRZ, is a blast to drive.

2012 Tesla Model S
Everyone spends so much time talking about the Model S' electric drivetrain, that its sheer beauty gets overlooked. The body of the Model S shows the fluid curves of a drop of mercury. Its sleek body serves the purpose of aerodynamic efficiency, but at the same time ends up looking like a dream. That design is particularly impressive when you consider the Model S is a four-door hatchback.

2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
When our reviewers started driving the Beetle Convertible, there was little tech to recommend it. But that did not stop them from enjoying every minute behind the wheel. Volkswagen's new Beetle design in hard-top form is very good, but the convertible brings out something extra. The Beetle Convertible, like art, may be hard to explain, but it leads to pure satisfaction.
