Firmware update disables FireWire disk mode in G4 Cube?

CNET staff
Bryan Carter writes: "After 3 days of solid troubleshooting, I'm confident that the G4 Cube Firmware 4.1.9 update has a defect wherein FireWire disk mode does not function. I have an iBook (dual USB 2001) which I use as a FireWire disk with my Cube. After updating the Cube's firmware to version 4.1.9, the iBook is no longer recognized. I tested the iBook with a Pismo, BW G3, and another Cube with (with the original firmware) and it works fine. I updated the 2nd Cube with the 4.1.9 firmware update and it now no longer recognizes either the Pismo or iBook 2001 in FireWire disk mode."

Update: Nancy Gageby partially confirms the original problem (she does not make clear if she was using Target Disk mode or an external drive - we are checking), and adds a fix. She writes: "I had Mac OS 9.2.1 installed on a FireWire disc and after completing the Firmware update, the Cube would not recognize it. When I performed a clean install of 9.2.1, it recognized the FireWire disk once again."
