Remove Firefox profiles for problems with rendering, plug-ins, etc. One of the most effective solutions for a variety of issues -- including page rendering issues, plug-ins not operating properly, and even repeated crashes -- that occur after updating to Firefox 2.0 is to delete all browser profiles.

This can be accomplished by navigating to the following directory:

  • ~/Library/Application Support

then deleting the folder Firefox.

MacFixIt reader Tom writes:

"I have had very strange issues with page rendering, theme compatibility, and plugin functionality, and by removing the Firefox folder everything began to work again. You can move your old bookmarks, history, etc from your old profile, and the contents of each file in the user profile folder can be found here and here.

Crashes when trying to play video In addition to the general stability issues (for some potential fixes, see this article), some users are reporting repeated unexpected quits from Firefox when attempting to play any embedded media.

One reader writes:

"I've found Firefox 2.0 frequently crashes when I try to play any format video from a multitude of Web pages."

Problems playing Flash and other embedded media Meanwhile, users continue to note problems with embedded media after updating to Firefox 2.0 -- particularly and inability to play back Flash content.

One reader writes:

"Firefox 2.0 will not display any Web Flash content using my new Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo."

If you are having similar issues, you may want to try uninstalling Flash (using this uninstaller) then re-installing it (using this download link).
