Final Cut Express 3.5 (#3): Crash at startup -- possible fix

Final Cut Express 3.5 (#3): Crash at startup -- possible fix

CNET staff

We previously reported an issue where Final Cut Express 3.5 crashes on startup, despite an apparently successful installation.

It now appears that, in some cases, a full re-install (after uninstalling the current copy) of the application (version 3.5) can resolve the issue. The problem appears to occur when version 3.5 is applied over a previous release.

One MacFixIt reader who found success with this workaround

"I installed the Final Cut Express HD 2.5 software on top of V2.0 and it crashed every time on the splash screem. Soundtrack worked fine thouugh from the original install and I hadn't upgraded it. I tried the delete the plist and test with another user account options and neither worked.

"I manually removed Final Cut Express using the instructions from the Apple website and then re-installed Final Cut ExpressFCE HD 3.5 and Soundtrack and it all works fine now. Only difference in installation was that Final Cut Express asked for the original serial number as well as the new one."
