Film trailer gives lively look at what it's like 'To be Takei'

The documentary takes an in-depth look at George Takei's personal tale and explores what led him to become the geek icon he is today.

George Takei is a man who needs no introduction. Whether we know him from his portrayal of Sulu in the "Star Trek" franchise or as a civil rights activist fighting for the rights of the LGBT community, Takei is an instantly recognizable and well-regarded figure in modern culture.

A documentary of Takei's life has been making the rounds at various film festivals this summer to much appraise, and on August 22, "To Be Takei" will make its official debut in theaters and on iTunes. On Friday, an official trailer for "To Be Takei" was released, showing a hilarious yet touching tale of the Internet's favorite geek and his trademark grin. You may even learn a thing or two from the trailer, like that as a child, Takei and his family were held in an American internment camp during World War II.
