FAXstf X: more readers reply

Regarding our note yesterday about a blank page problem with FAXstf and Word, several readers offered their experiences with FAXstf:

Stephen Hart replies: "Although I can fax from my Mac to my e-Fax number from Eudora, TextEdit, Acrobat Reader and others, I cannot fax from AppleWorks WP. Everything seems to be working, but no print job ever materializes. On another front with FAXstf X, I've removed the FAXstf files from my login items. That appears to have restored the stability I enjoyed in X before installing FAXstf. The Smith Micro site says they are working on an update to fix numerous reported problems, especially the tendency for Modem Center to get locked in 'communicating' mode."

Update: Jack Barze writes: "I reported this to Smith Micro early on, and they called it an Acrobat problem. If you send the PDF file from OS X's Preview app instead of Acrobat, the problem disappears."

Ron Roszkiewicz adds: "FAXstf for OS X takes an Acrobat 5.0.5 page and distorts it into a squeezed top to bottom fax that is barely readable. Also, while I have gotten faxes through recently, it seems that every time I get an error, the fax stays in the queue and tries to send itself later on.

Rory Cooney writes: "I haven't had problem faxing documents out of Word X unless I use the Office address book to enter address fields into a document. I find then that the document faxes fine except that the addresses auto-filled from the address book do not print to fax."
