What dad wouldn't dig a Kindle Fire HD? And what son or daughter wouldn't dig saving $20 on it?
What dad wouldn't dig a Kindle Fire HD? And what son or daughter wouldn't dig saving $20 on it? Amazon

Attention, everyone in my family (immediate and extended): Father's Day is Sunday, June 16. You have less than two weeks left to shop. That is all.

Oh, I mean, just being a dad is gift enough. Heh. Heh. (Seriously, though, where's my cake?)

Never one to let a holiday go by undiscounted, Amazon is offering $20 off any Kindle Fire HD tablet when you apply coupon code DADSFIRE at checkout.

That means you can get the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD (16GB) for $179 shipped, the Fire HD 8.9 (32GB) for $279 shipped, the Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE (32GB) for $379 shipped, and so on. The coupon applies to any Fire HD configuration, including with or without Special Offers.

You may recall that just last week, Staples had the Fire HD 8.9 (16GB) for $239, a savings of $30 -- and with a $40 Staples gift card to boot. Alas, that deal is gone, but at least you can still save on a Kindle for Dad.

Ah, but which one? That's a tough call. I like the one-handed usability of a 7-inch tablet, but certainly there's much to be said for a bigger screen -- especially if Dad's into movies and Web browsing. And, hey, that built-in 4G LTE option is mighty sweet.

Ultimately, though, the Cheapskate's gotta go cheap, meaning the regular old Fire HD (16GB) for $179 out the door. That's a terrific tablet deal any way you slice it.

And while you're at it, why not stock that Kindle with a couple of e-books Dad might like? For a limited time, Amazon has ""="">"The Perfect Mile: Three Athletes, One Goal, and Less Than Four Minutes to Achieve It", ""="">"The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter," and 's="" survival="" guide""="">"On Par: The Everyday Golfer's Survival Guide" absolutely free. Of course, you don't have to tell Dad you got these gratis; it can be our secret.

Bonus deal: Ready to cut the cord on your landline phone? Today only, 1SaleADay has the NetTalk Duo Wi-Fi voice-over-IP phone system for $34.99 shipped. It normally sells for $64.95, though this version comes with just three months of phone service, not the usual one year. Still, each additional year is just $29.95, and this Duo can be plugged in just about anywhere in your house; it doesn't require close proximity to your router. I've tested this model (with cable Internet service) and found it to be an excellent home-phone option. But as with any VoIP solution, your mileage may vary. Also, plan on two to three weeks for delivery.
