Zynga's FarmVille 2: Country Escape Zynga
Troubled social-gaming company Zynga has launched a new game on Android and iOS.

FarmVille 2: Country Escape is available now in Apple's App Store and the Google Play marketplace, Zynga announced on Thursday. The game is available as a free download, and allows players to take on a new farm-building experience by growing crops, raising animals, and creating goods to sell to local merchants. Gamers can also play the title when they're offline.

FarmVille is one of the most popular of Zynga's game franchises, attracting over 400 million players since its inception. FarmVille and CityVille were key drivers in Zynga's initial success as a social-gaming company, but have since given way to other popular titles both online and on mobile devices, leaving Zynga with a host of troubles.

Over the last few years, Zynga's revenue has been on the decline. Last year, the company generated $873 million in revenue, down from the $1.3 billion in revenue it generated in the prior year. Over the last three years alone, Zynga has lost over $600 million.

The company's troubles have been due in large part to its extended reliance upon social gaming. Zynga has been trying over the last year to improve its standing in mobile, and its FarmVille 2 launch on Thursday is another step in that direction.

FarmVille 2 works on both smartphones and tablets, and is available in 16 languages. Zynga says that the title will be coming soon to Amazon tablets, but didn't provide an exact launch date.

CNET has contacted Zynga for additional information on the FarmVille 2 launch. We will update this story when we have more information.

Zynga shares are up 4 cents, or 1 percent, to $4.15 following the announcement.
