Facebook, Twitter seek out social shopping

Social-media commerce ramps up as Facebook tests a Buy button and Twitter acquires CardSpring. Meanwhile, Amazon debuts a Netflix-like service for e-books called Kindle Unlimited.

Impulse shoppers, beware. Both Twitter and Facebook are in a race to grow their commerce business with new ways to shop on social media. Facebook is testing a "buy" button with some companies. The entire transaction takes place on Facebook. But this isn't the first time Facebook has dabbled in social shopping.

Twitter is also growing its shopping powers. It acquired CardSpring, a company that helps developers link up credit cards to applications for shopping. Recently Twitter worked with American Express, Amazon and Starbucks to incorporate hashtags into shopping opportunities.

Also in this episode, learn about Amazon's new Kindle Unlimited service. For $10 a month, customers can access about 600,000 e-books on any device, along with thousands of audio books. It's going after similar services Oyster and Scribd.
