Love 'em or hate 'em, Facebook's timeline apps seem to be here to stay.
After 12 more media properties would be adding apps to Facebook's timeline.driving astounding amounts of traffic, Facebook announced today that
"As media organizations build new timeline apps, initial results show significant increases in traffic and engagement, while allowing media sites to reach new--often younger--demographics," Facebook Director of Media Partnerships Justin Osofsky said in a statement.
The new apps include Buzzfeed, CBS Local: Los Angeles and New York, CMT, The Daily Show, GetGlue, Huffington Post, Mashable, MSNBC.com, MTV News, Pixable, Sporting News, and the Today Show.
Before today, Facebook's media partnerships included The Washington Post, The Guardian U.K., Yahoo, Rockmelt, and Digg--and they've done pretty well."Since Digg Social Reader launched, their page views are up 35 percent," Osofsky said. "Rockmelt users are adding 14 new articles every day through the social browser, driving 20 percent new traffic and new users to the site."
The Guardian app has been installed more than 5 million times since launching last September, according to Osofsky, and more than half the app's users are 24-years-old and under.
Facebook introducedin September, and the . Since then, users have begun sharing news articles, songs, and videos with their friends. According to Facebook, some apps are doing especially well, like Pinterest, which grew by more than 60 percent since becoming a Timeline app less than a month ago.
"We look forward to seeing more media apps come to Timeline--giving media organizations new ways to connect with their readers and distribute their content to new audiences," said Osofsky.
