Extended Systems to buy mobile-data vendor

Extended Systems, which helps companies enable workers to access corporate data on wireless devices, said Tuesday that it plans to acquire fellow mobile-data vendor ViaFone in a stock deal valued at $11.4 million. Boise-based Extended Systems said it will keep ViaFone's Brisbane, Calif., office to increase its Silicon Valley presence and said that ViaFone CEO Russ McMeekin is expected to join Extended Systems' board of directors once the deal is completed. "We believe the combination of technologies, as well as the addition of ViaFone's alliance relationships and corporate accounts, will put Extended Systems in a very strong competitive position in the enterprise market," Extended Systems CEO Steve Simpson said in a statement.
