Exported Excel charts and rotated text problem: a work-around

CNET staff
Regarding the problem with exporting Excel charts to PowerPoint and rotated text (mentioned last week), Brett Gaspers offers a work-around: "Convert the inserted Excel 98 graph in PowerPoint into MS Office objects. You will then find that there are now two text boxes wherever there was a 90 degree rotated text box. The top text box happens to be jagged bitmaps of the rotated text which cause the blocky printing problem. Delete this, leaving behind the remaining text box beneath, which is the outline font version of the label. You can now regroup all of the converted objects into one (or just leave it, it doesn't matter) and the labels should now print clearly. This is a pain to do if you have a lot of charts, but it's the only way I've found to get around this problem."

Christoph Berger also confirms that this "double label" may be found when exporting Excel charts to other applications (including Freehand and ClarisDraw). The issue seems to be more with Excel than with PowerPoint.
