It's a common superhero story: someone overcomes a difficult upbringing or tragic accident and blossoms into a righteous keeper of peace and justice with a fancy outfit.

San Francisco artist Khoa Ho visualizes those tales of modern mythology in an inspiring set of work called "Superheroes - Past/Present," which uses black and white silhouette imagery to create a dramatic composition.

"Everyone has a memory, a past. It's the driving force behind all of our actions for our present, our future," Ho says in the introduction to his work on Behance. "In this poster series I took a dive into the origins of these individuals and who they were before they became superheroes to remind us that despite the trials of our past, what we choose to do moving forward is much more important to us and the world we share."
