Eudora 5.2 Limits Dial-Up Functionality

CNET staff

Steve Walton reports a serious lack of functionality in Eudora 5.2, which Qualcomm is apparently blaming on a limitation in Mac OS X:

"I'm running Mac OS 9.1 and just upgraded to Eudora 5.2. One facility is now removed which affects users using a dial-up connection to automatically check mail at intervals.

"This facility is in 'Settings', 'Internet dialup': in Eudora 5.1.1 (and previous versions) you can set Eudora to automatically 'put the phone down' after it has automatically connected to check mail.

"In Eudora 5.2 this facility is greyed-out with a message that says that Apple considers that this is not necessary in OS X, and that if you disagree you should write to Apple.

"So I won't be upgrading to Eudora 5.2 - it's vital for me that I can automatically connect and disconnect my dial-up connection."
