EU rejects Microsoft plan

CNET staff

The European Commission rejected Microsoft's proposal to limit the power of a trustee overseeing its compliance with EU-imposed sanctions.

Last year, the EC ordered Microsoft to ship a version of its operating system without the Media Player, after finding that Microsoft used its monopoly position to try to manipulate the markets for media players and other software.

Microsoft lost a bid to suspend the sanctions, and therefore must comply while it appeals the decision.
